Notes
- As far as Norman remembers, my father came home extremely upset. Hewas upset for days afterwards. Apparently my father's birthcertificate was in Danish, and his father was not William Thomas. AsNorman gradually heard, after Dad opened up to the family, his motherEllen Russell had gone to Europe as a governess to the children of aDanish family, met a young man, and then became pregnant. My fatherwas the result. She and the little baby came back to England, andshortly after that, she met William Thomas. So my Dad grew up thinkingthat William Thomas was his father, and never knew until that day onthe platform of the train station.
