Research & Activities

Saturday 5th May 2007 - attended the “Who Do You Think You Are” Live National History Show at Olympia, London. Spoke to “expert” Sophie Pigott who gave me advice and direction on how to:-

  • Research the French census in connection with Emma Datlen
  • Consult the Rate Books for Chatham which may give us more information regarding Johannes Datlen

September 2006
I have tried to uncover the fate of Johannes Dietlein’s two lesser known children, Joseph and Charlotte. Could they have had children whose descendants have survived today? Read all about it here...

On sunday 20th August 2006 I was successful in finding St Mary’s Church in Chatham. It looked disused and unfortunately the doors were locked so I could not take a look inside. I took photos which will be posted onto this website and took a wander around the cemetery but could not locate any Datlen graves.

will be attending the Monk Family re-union on Saturday 19th August 2006 in Kennington, Kent. Eleanor Annie Datlen married Alfred James Monk in 1909. Eleanor was the daughter of Charles Datlen / Robert / Robert / Johannes. I will be representing the Datlen branch along with my Mother, Valerie. This invitation comes from Barbara White, Eleanor’s Grand-daughter

While I am in Kent (see following activity) I hope to make a visit to St Mary’s Church Chatham and Dover. When I was last in Chatham I failed to find the old church where Johannes’ five children were born, his first born son, Adam and his wife Phoebe are buried. I now know the location of the church and hope to take pictures.
